“And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.” – Friedrich Nietzsche
There’s no way I can prioritise my passion for shooting boudoir or dancers. And that’s why whenever I have a dance photo session on the radar I try to capture it as intimately as possible.
I have very little interest in shooting dance poses when there’s nothing else to it. For me, every photograph I take is always a portrait in the first place.
“Dance is the hidden language of the soul.”
“Dance, when you’re broken open. Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. […] Dance when you’re perfectly free.”
“We dance to seduce ourselves. To fall in love with ourselves. When we dance with another, we manifest the very thing we love about ourselves so that they may see it and love us too.”
This quote perfectly reflects my perception of boudoir photography. Yes, I believe in order to be loved or desired by somebody else, we need to fall in love with ourselves. And that’s one of the reasons why we’re seeking this experience of stripping off (literally and figuratively) in front of the camera. To get the approval that we are enough.
